Prime Ministers Modi and Johnson agree to take serious steps towards a strategic partnership

 

Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Boris Johnson agreed on Tuesday for a shared vision for the UK-India defence partnership, with particular focus on:

 

·      Closer co-operation in a free and open Indo-Pacific. 

 

·      Enhanced cooperation in Maritime Domain Awareness.

 

·      An invitation to the UK to join the Information Fusion Centre set up by the Indian Navy in Gurgaon.

 

·      An ambitious exercise programme which includes joint tri-lateral exercises. 

 

·      Conclusion of a Logistics Memorandum of Understanding of the kind that exists with the US, Japan, Australia and Singapore.

 

·      Collaboration on India’s future combat air engine requirement.

 

·      As part of a “2030 Roadmap”, close cooperation for indigenous development of the Tejas Mark 2 fighter. 

 

·      Industrial collaboration in maritime propulsion, space and cyber, marking the start of a promising new era of UK-India collaboration.
