Well there is a small shaped charge in front and a bigger shaped charge in the back -- so it is a tandem warhead for an anti-tank weapon.
ReplyDeleteSince I dont see a rocket motor, it is probably air dropped or artillery launched.
This is a smart bomb!!
ReplyDeleteOk, we want F-INSAS pic in the background of MSMC in the pic....

ReplyDeleteNag ATGM?
ReplyDeletesince u r in pune....it should be drdo originated.
ReplyDeletedoubleShaped charge...anti tank tandem warhead.
infra red sensor....air dropped.but since u r in pune..so artillery launched.
it is infrared seeker arrangement of NAG missle probably
ReplyDeletewhat is the use of Blast Cum Earth Shock warhead ??
ReplyDeleteTorpedo Advanced Light
ReplyDeleteit is infrared seeker arrangement of probably NAG missle.
ReplyDeleteThis cant be tropedo...no fins for cutting water...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a smart bomb developed by drdo
Tandem warhead for Nag missile. The smaller shape charge in front makes initial damage and the big shape charge at back pierce inside and explodes.
ReplyDeleteQUIZ NO.3 STATUS REPORT: NOT A SINGLE CORRECT ANSWER SO FAR...
ReplyDeleteNAG Tandem warhead
ReplyDeletemay be a failed drdo attempt to make a sensor fused munition.
ReplyDeletelaser guided shell for 155mm howitzers
ReplyDeleteMy guess is its the warhead of the NAG missile or HELINA missile. Looks like a MMW version.
ReplyDeleteBut the only irking point is NAG is a tandem warhead missile, but if it had both warhead in front of the motor, then does it have a triple tandem warhead???
Interesting quiz though !!
looking like Brahmos Missile
ReplyDeleteIt is a Towed Array Sonar Being Developed By DRDO For NAVY.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be an underwater Mine
ReplyDeletePerhaps a smoke bomb.
ReplyDeleteMan portable 'Javelin' missile
ReplyDeletei want to say its a nuclear warhead but i dont think they wud display tht :P
ReplyDeleteLooks like a LDP (Laser Designator Pod) or a Reconnaissance Pod.
ReplyDeleteHELINA ???
ReplyDelete-Raj
Is it a miniature nuclear warhead by any chance?
ReplyDeletea bunker buster maybe
ReplyDeleteType of Pinaka rocket?
ReplyDeleteDepth Charge?
ReplyDeleteCol. Shukla,
ReplyDeleteMy guess: This is the front section of the semi-active laser homing GLCM.
On that note, what is the status of this program? I remember mock-ups being displayed at DefExpo and AeroIndia but other than nothing else has emerged.
Simple, nuclear bomb - rear end in the core.
ReplyDeleteBrahmos anti shipping warhead.
ReplyDeletesorry scratch that, there are 2 HEAT rounds obviously this design is oriented towards things with multiple layered armour, definately not nag that has a fiberglass body.
ReplyDeleteEuromissile MILAN. final answer lock kardiya jai.
don't really know too thin on the hull to be a torpedo, nag is fiberglass, anti Armour config. points to either a new development or warhead obscured by bodywork, I mean there are plenty of possibilities like, sea eagle, Martel. too big to be anti tank from infantry point of view heavy mounted at gm of some kind or anti shipping.
ReplyDeleteajai has taken it personally to fox us at least once ! :D
ReplyDeletelet me have a couple more stab then
a) electronic pod like the siva or r118 meant to be carried by fighters
b) cut away of the new drdo LGB
I see feed horns and waveguides . Maybe a sonobuoy or the seeker of a torpedo ?
ReplyDeleteNirubhay
ReplyDeleteIt is the warhead cross-section of Milan-2 Anti-tank missile.
ReplyDeleteWarhead cross-section of Milan anti-tank missile.
ReplyDeleteAnything to do with Shaurya?
ReplyDeleteIt is front section(close to 1/4th of total length) of Helina or and Nag. Tandem warhead section is colored in red & yellow and seeker is in red.
ReplyDeleteThree parts rivetted together.
ReplyDeleteBottom part appears to be HE for initial propulsion.
Second, part appers to be something like filled with secondary charge or limitor for actuation of the base charge.
No nose cone or distance limitor Hence traditinal HEAT could be ruled out.
Appears to be tendem warhead for tank gun ??
May be HESH or may be HEAT.
Something which will create double impact such as arty bomb or a bomblet for bunker brusting, craters, holes on the runway, etc.
It's a Torpedo!!
ReplyDeleteTHERE ARE A COUPLE OF VERY INTELLIGENT GUESSES THAT HAVE COME SOMEWHAT CLOSE TO THE ANSWER... BUT NOBODY HAS GOT THE ANSWER YET!
ReplyDeleteTRY SOME MORE....
sonar, air dropped from P-8I's procured from US
ReplyDeleteIt's a buddy refueling system for fighter planes or a pod holding drag schute.
ReplyDeleteNew design of Napalm bomb.
ReplyDeleteLaser Designator used on aircrafts?
ReplyDelete--
Mihir
Ok I throw my Chawani again :
ReplyDeleteThe Nose is semi circular shape with PIBD Fuse, may be.
The fitment inside is ventury assembly
Circular cut near nose could be for rotating band.
Copper liner is not visible but perhaps can be fitted in the front section along the walls to form a slug
HE composition is to be filled
But what is that HE ventury seprately iside the tube?
The second section is low pressure chamber.
Third and bottom section is propellant charge chamber.
Base plug and closing cap could be inserted or may exist within..
It a High Explosive dual purpose catridge either for Carl Gustav or a tank gun (HPDP) or HESH round.
Is it an ammunition for Arjun?
May be I am focussing on your interest and expertise
Brahmos stuff?
ReplyDeleteIs this a Brahmos Air to Air Version. or DRDO Man Portable submarine for Marine Commandos.
ReplyDeleteA war head for smerch/ pinaka MBRL Missiles?
ReplyDelete-Raj
this is advance projectile for 155mm gun design and develop by OFAJ nagpur
ReplyDeleteLooks like the warhead of a Submarine launched Ballistic missile. Agni-3SL mock up...
ReplyDeleteDesi Nuclear bomb..
ReplyDeleteMaybe an anti submarine rocket (RBU kind of warhead) or intelligent underwater mine warhead me thinks
ReplyDeleteInside of Nag missile
ReplyDeleteor
NSTL lightweight torpedo
Ok lets see what we have here it is definitely guided in the terminal phase so rules out ballistic weapons,
ReplyDeleteit is too thin/small to be a submarine torpedo, warhead section.
KLUB class cruise missile warhead possibly if this object fits the dimensions of a 533mm tube or close to that.
definitely not man portable as the object in question will require a motor strapped on to it.
Not sensor fused as you need may of those and they are generally a single HEAT round.
not air to air as those have continuous expanding rod warheads..
Not an anti submarine mortar round as those are pure blast and are not needed with directional attack.
what its role can be guessed it has to work against heavy armour,
only 2 things now a days have that warships and tanks.
that narrows it down. Heavy antitank missile so not on fast jets, close air support role helicopter borne atgm, maybe Russian or as yet undisclosed drdo project. Unlikely those are released with fanfare and not publicly released on blog sites.
The tube in the front is disturbing, it would degrade radar performance unless it is a intended physical aperture
taper in the mid section indicates that there is some constraint, physical package. needed to fit warhead bus, or is it because of the mode in which this is to operate. perhaps dictated by aerodynamics.
there was talk of India getting hellfire missiles, could we have managed to get out drdo to manufacture its warhead.
So with all these in consideration, i have no definite answer but just that it is either an anti tank missile or anti ship missile.
Hello Mr. Shukla:
ReplyDeleteI will hazard a couple of guesses - dunking sonar or towed torpedo decoy.
Looks more like a canister launched missile, for now we know only of sagarika or is it K15.
ReplyDeleteTorpedo
ReplyDeleteI don't want to keep guessing , but it has features of a air launched missile as there are two charges there.
ReplyDeleteLooks more like the Nag, Helina is the best guess, however can't say for sure only for the reason that the top of the missile does not seem to have a transparent head, but it looks so close.
Ok. It is the MMW radar warhead for the Nag . NOT the current IR seeker based Nag warhead.
ReplyDeleteAjai,
ReplyDeleteIt has a seeker at the front and warheads also.
Could it be the new HELINA missile with infra red seeker.
Thats a inflight refueling probe model rather crude one....
ReplyDeleteLaser Proximity Fuse in a warhead?
ReplyDeleteLAHAT tank launched missile
ReplyDeleteA warhead for PINAKA missile system. And the two visible shape charges may be for Anti-Armor duties???
ReplyDeletebunker buster warhead?
ReplyDeleteAnti Submarine Rocket on the lines of 90R which are launched from RBU 6000...and are manufactured by L&T.
ReplyDeletedrdo assembled anti tank missile INVAR without fins
ReplyDeleteIf it isn't the seeker-warhead combination of the nag/helina, then my guess would be that it is seeker-warhead cutout of the DRDO developed tank gun launched laser guided missile(sorry I dont know its exact name, but I still qualify for the gold star right?); something like the Israeli LAHAT , which was displayed routinely in expos since forever.
ReplyDeleteIts an anti-submarine mine.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the pics of F-INSAS?? pls...
It clearly has a tandem warhead and a seeker maybe - depending on how closely the mockup resembles the real thing.. but somehow it still doesn't seem to suggest its a NAG's cross-section...
ReplyDeleteI also can't figure out how it can be a torpedo warhead - the shape and the proportions don't look right even for the small air-launched ones..
I'm also unsure if they use tandem warheads in torpedoes (enlighten me anyone?!)
For sure its NOT a Pinaka or Smerch! Wrong looks, wrong "cross section"..
(Pinaka itself can be "MIRVed", sort of..)
Brahmos, well honestly I have no idea about that one..
I will put my money on it being a Prithvi MIRV "bomblet".
(Or is it the incendiary??!)
But I don't know why it looks something of a MIRV bunker-buster (bomb) or anti-tank munition to me! :-o
Maybe the "bomblet" has a bunker-buster or anti-tank variant as well??!
So final answer - a Prithvi MIRV "bomblet" submunition..
Thats a MIRV for Agni OPr Prithvi Missiles.
ReplyDeleteFirst Tiny Star for Anonymous 10:25
ReplyDeleteSmall Brownie point for Daanish for his reasoning, even though it did not lead to the correct answer.
Medium Star for Anonymous 16:59... since this is very similar to a LAHAT.
And the BIG GOLD STAR goes to.... ABHIK.
It is the ATGM that will be fired from the Arjun tank gun.
Yeah!
Hi Ajai,
ReplyDeleteThts GR888888!!! it was terrific quiz series u are doing...i luv it.
Can you please give a little details abt this baby....is it NAG based? is it New developement? whts is its status? whts its name?
Yeipee!
ReplyDeleteWould be nice if you could give an update on the program, cos it has been under development for some time now I reckon, also may be they could consider a man portable version?
Mashallah, what am I hearing. DRDO made Anti-tank weaponry for the Arjun tank. What's the mizzile called? Gandiva is already taken.
ReplyDeleteAnonyous with the medium start:
ReplyDeleteNext quiz plz
Really? DRDO is making this?
ReplyDeleteExcellent Quiz.
ReplyDeleteWill this ATGM will need to be wrapped in the latest newspaper before firing from the Arjun tank gun.
Falling in love with this refreshing all new Broadsword.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ajai Sir.
Requesting Quiz No.4
Ajai,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it is not NAG ATGM front portion. Are you for sure it is CLGM. Can there be pics as displayed instead of some cutouts of this missile.
Contours of this pic exactly matches to that of NAG ATGM. Both looks alike ?
ReplyDeletegive some details about this ATGM and other projects.
ReplyDeletethanks.
A “totally new missile,” called Agni II – is to be tested in September from the Wheeler Island, off the Orissa coast.
ReplyDeleteDeveloped by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Agni II – has two stages and both are powered by solid propellants. “It has several advanced technologies,” sources in the DRDO said.
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/article553723.ece
Is it CLGM that will be operational for arjun's use.
ReplyDeleteIt could be INVAR but i think that was for T90s use
Its the guidance system of Nag missile the center has the laser gyro? or looks similar to an Atomic bomb, where there are charges on either side while enriched uranium disks are placed in the center.
ReplyDeleteIs it one of the anti-submarine missiles used on the Ka-28 helo?
ReplyDeletejavelin atgm
ReplyDeletecant be a missile it has no fins
ReplyDelete
